The Parlour Bar

The Parlour Bar

They have a good menu and a wide + interesting drink selection, but it can get busy with financial workers in the weekday evenings. At the weekend you pretty much have the place to yourself and it has a much more relaxed atmosphere. The same menu is shared between all the branches of this small London based chain. The pudding shots are the highlight of the desert menu. As is the Thai Red Curry, comes as vegetable only but you can add your choice of meat for about £3 extra. For drink i just stick to the basic raspberry cordial and sparkling water, you get a big glass of it and it's so refreshing. Read more...

TRADE

TRADE

A hidden find. Really well kitted out, friendly staff, and a full range of cakes, drinks and food. The cakes were really good, had that nice home-backed quality. It was quite quiet for a weekday, I went during the after lunch lull. It's the ideal place to come to do some work and reading. They have an outside terrace at the back which from the front you wouldn't know is there. Highly recommend. They have this lemon and mind aquifer thing which is a tempting thing in itself. Read more...

Albion Cafe

Albion Cafe

A really wide variety of options on the menu from lunch to dinner and all the sweet stuff. Off peak their afternoon tea is both very substantial and costs around £10 per person, which is very reasonable. Can get very busy at the weekends. But is more of a romantic and quiet place on weeknights. The dinner is stunning. This is one of those places that I think about all the time. They have this pumpkin and spinach bake, was seriously so good, and only about £8. I've also seen the chicken, massive portion. To top it off, there is a deli/shop you can buy things from. The Apple juice in the glass bottles for £2.50 is a bargain; much better than any stuff you can get in the supermarkets. Read more...

Mondrian Hotel London

Mondrian Hotel London

This hotel opened October 1st 2014 so obviously has that fresh new feeling to everything. Everything from the furnishings to the building look newly unwrapped. The staff all wear big smiles and are very friendly and helpful. The grand entrance lobby is actually at the back (on the side away from the Thames). The river facing entrance is just a door and you would think that it's not a hotel/bar/restaurant at all as it's one-way mirrored glass (which on the inside is funny to see people adjust themselves in the mirror). The hotel is clearly trying to appeal for an older big-spend market as have a large range of cocktails with a price tag to match. Read more...

citizenM hotel London Bankside

citizenM hotel London Bankside

CitizenM is a chic, luxury, trendy hotel, as well as a instagramers paradise. The lobby is chocked full of interesting and designed objects of fascination. This makes the hotel unique in it's style and approach in London. The rooms follow suite with the lobby with the ability to change the colour of the lights using a supplied tablet. This place is place to come for non-travellers just to have an awesome slice of cake (my favourite is the Red Velvet, I wish they would bring back the scones) and coffee. There are tables to work on as a workspace, free wifi, and comfy throwback sofas area for something more relaxing. Read more...

Waterloo Bridge
Vapiano Soho

Vapiano Soho

Compared to the other Vapianos in London this one has the quickest service, while the staff pay the most attention and make the fewest mistakes. The location makes it valuable as it makes it possible to have a reasonably priced filling quick meal while out and about in central. Vegetarians look out for the specials board at the ordering counter, as the menu has rather bland and basic options otherwise. My favourite at the moment is the special, a pumpkin and coconut source pasta which is delicious. I get a small soup as a starter as it's really cheap and tasty, and won't fill you up before eating a big main. Getting a small starter makes having to queue up for food a little bit more tolerable as you wont feel so urgently hungry. There is nothing worse than waiting for food when you're hungry. Read more...

Le Pain Quotidien

Le Pain Quotidien

The venue itself is a welcome change from the fluorescent lights of the offices and shopping center surrounding; inside it's decorated with wooden features, mirrored windows, and classical music - giving it a nice atmosphere. It's surprisingly spacious, and you can easily find a space for an prompt meeting after lunch. That said, service can be slow, and the flat white I ordered was among the worse I ever had. The scone was also more omelette tasting than scone, it arrived hot, and the whippy cream they serve just melted instantly; disappointing since it cost £5 and there are far better for far cheaper elsewhere in London. It's one of the few places you could get a cream tea at Canary Wharf without going to a hotel. With some staff training they could really up the quality and justify the high prices. Read more...

Polo 24 Hour Bar

Polo 24 Hour Bar

Came here randomly and didn't expect much given it's directly opposite Liverpool Street train station. I've seen this place full with a que during peak times, so I went with the mentality that the staff would be busy and it's a quick turn-around joint, not a place for a slow relaxing drink. This place has a lot of foot traffic of people coming and going. That said, the waitress still managed to bring to the table a selection of their teas to show me which were loose leaf teas. I didn't have much time, so a tea and a salted caramel brownie (which was only £1.70) was all we had. But would come back again to try the food. It's nice upstairs. Read more...

Canary Wharf Tube Station

Canary Wharf Tube Station

One of the most unique and memorable tube stations - one of those that people visiting London will remember. It's always worth travelling to Canary Wharf even if you're here for leisure and not for business. It's quiet at weekends. This is one of the only tube stations where people self-queue at each door for the train, I find people here are much more polite and organised than other stations where they push through rather than let you off first. The station itself is cavernous, and when I'm not in a hurry - like it's rush hour and I don't wanna squash myself into a train, there is a film playing on the upper level all day. Read more...
